About Sarah

NEWS: My 2023 Contrasts exhibition at Rodic Davidson will be travelling to Jewelers’ Werk Galerie in Washington DC Spring 2024

I use precious and non-precious materials, primarily silver, gold, bioresin and wood, to make sensual sculptural jewellery.  The differing materials allow for a wide range of visual and tactile experiences. Using mainly carving and casting methods allows me to make play with forms and work in a spontaneous way changing the shapes as they progress.

I am drawn to work that embodies a modest simplicity and my early collections in the 1990’s were pared down silver pieces sold through Barneys , New York , and Liberty, London.   I began to experiment and combine other materials with these which I increasingly exhibited in the Applied Arts galleries internationally and were recognised as part of the early discussions on sustainable materials. It has led to teaching specialist courses in plastics and wood; currently at Central st Martins, Morley College and West Dean.

I pioneered the use of bioresin at the turn of this century, a new resin developed by a German chemist using sunflower seed oil as the main ingredient and a wonderfully versatile material. In 2019 I was commissioned to write my first book, Creating Jewellery in Wood, which was an opportunity to reassess wood as a sustainable and exciting material for contemporary jewellery. In my collections I use recycled precious metals wherever possible and offer a Fair-trade option by commission. I make considered handmade contemporary pieces that I hope will be loved for a long time.

I was based at Cockpit Arts, Holborn in London from 1999-2015 but now live and work in Lewes, East Sussex.
